Guest Gaittins
I need some help from anyone who has a suggestion. I'm ready to invest in dual cd players, a good mixer and case. What do I get? Money is not an object. Not to say that I want to pay through the nose for my equipment, but I want the best. If I'm going to do this I want to do it right. HISTORY: I've been looking into dual Pioneer CDJ-1000 players and a DJM-600 mixer. The cost (just over 3G's) seems excessive but from the amount of local (Philadelphia,PA,USA) DJ's that I've asked they say these are top of the line. I've never cheezed-out on anything that had to do with my professional career in the past and I don't plan on cheezing-out to save a few bucks. Is this a good decision or am I just sinking money on gear that isn't going to take me to the next level? Thank you for your time and suggestions in advance. Guest Deep Kick
Im using CDJ700s. It totally works fine. At least, its good enough for me. If you have money to spend on CDJ1000, I would say go get CDJ700s and CDs.
Guest Jaimz
Hi, I'd seriously considering leaving it for a couple of months until the CDJ-800s are released. They have some really nice features, and they're set to retail for less than the CDJ-1000s. Also, if you like the look of the DJM-600, maybe check out the DJM-3000, again, it retails for less than the 600, and had a few nifty new features. Guest Jaimz
I probably should mention that personally I'm considering getting a pair of the 800s, but for a mixer I'd rather go for the Redsound Infader [http://www.redsound.com/products/infader/index.htm] - it's got three seperate cross faders for different frequency bands! How fucken cool is that?!
Guest nick
i've used cdj-1000's at a gig once and although i had never used them before this party they were very good indeed - very tight and precise and they have a bigger wheel than the other models so you can be a bit more forceful withem. the bpm clock is also very handy. basically they are great to mix with and its almost too easy!!!! however most parties i've played at have 100's or 500's. these models are a lot more difficult to use, not as precise and a lot more delicate with touch. if you buy the 1000's and get a real expert on them, and end up playing at parties with shitter decks you may have problems. its like owning a fat pair of technics 1210's only to turn up at a party that uses crap belt drives that are really difficult to mix on! so my advice is - yes the 1000's are the dogs bollox (i cant say for the new 800's). if you get them then make sure you know how good they are compared to the other models. i have learnt to mix on the 100's - every model i use above that is a luxury. see wot i mean. Guest Late
Come to your senses, people! :> Turntables, not lame cdjays!
Guest Robyo
turntables versus cds... it's the old analog vs. digital debate all over again! Sure the feel and warmth of records is great, but they're a pain to lug around!!! I like the precision of cueing on cds and definitely enjoy the luxury of burning new mixes on my computer and djing it later that night! ... but that's besides the point... If you don't want to spend a lot of money for new dj gear, I recommend the Numark CDmix 2... it's two decent cd players in a mixer with connex for turntables and more line level instruments (I use my sampler)... It doesn't have bpm counter or FX send, but it's great for barebones mixing! Compact, mobile, and cheap: mine was less than $450 on ebay, new! peace and good luck :-)
