Guest scalar
Hmmm... I have a lot of respect for the engineering skills of these guys!!!!! I have not yet managed to produce a necton esque kick i really like! I know that they start with a really clicky kick, and then perform a slowish transient pitch shift down... Or at least i think they do... But whenever i do this, i always end up with a really weak sub, which is REALLY hard to fit into a mix, and EQing the kick kills the upper frequencies i like so much. I really like the necton kick for its place in the mix as they use it, as you can fit in really fat squelchy bass, and also make a kick sound really hard without having the volume cranked up so much. I don't think my problem is compression, as i have screwed around with that alot, and was wondering if maybe they are layering in another sub kick underneath the main kick. Wondering if anyone has got any advice on this??? Cheers guys
shpongled
I think it's a distortion that makes a kick sound hard without high volume.... you can't hear the distortion when there is other stuff going... like bassline and hihats. Native Instrument's Kontakt has veeery nice tube and transient distortions.
Guest DeeperNETWERK
Try applying the VST plug "Da Tube"
Guest scalar
OK cheers guys! I will be investing in kontakt soon, so it sounds like I have a winner, however, I will also check out Da Tube, and see what it can do!
Guest UrhgurH
I talked to the guys during one of the gigs this year, and the technique that they use is actually a simple one. Take one kick that has the "right" kinda snap, and one kick that has awsome bass. Eq away the bass on the snap kick, and eq away the snap on the bass kick. Mix the two together and Voila!! Necton kick.
