Guest blink
i love reason, but recently moved on to cubase because of the limitations to mastering in reason. it was a great tool to learn with though, and i still plan on using it with cubase as a sound bank. Guest Bodhisattva
it is a kick ass program if you are not able to work with cubase or logic.... It looks simple but after 2 years workig on it, i can get features and songs out of it to nice to be true.............. BUT... You cant do everything with it, you should use it along with cubase ore anything like that because of the better sequencer, use of vst synths and effects, no direct audio output per track in reason , so no effects or only the build in ones witch eat your cpu in a jiffie (and they are limited.. !) Ofcourse, low fi music goes well on reason , start using envelopes and stuff or the malstrom (make a new sound use the filters and then your cpu goes in the red ) and you will need a GOOD pc + GOOD soundcard (or a mAC ;-) ) Peolpe complaining about it being to lame and stuff dont really use it, its good to get you started and the synths are really nice to create your own sound and to learn about lfo, filters , sawtooths and all that need to know stuff..... If you cant make music in reason Dont bother looking for anything else....., it wont get simpler then that ! Regards Bodhi!
Guest eOi
Dark Knight, I agree with the previous posts, it's a great prog. I picked it up when it was just released here in Sweden (the 1.0 version that is) and it was very easy to get into... And the 2.0 version has some nice new features including a new "graintable" synth (the Maelström which can produce some very cool sounds). I had worked with hardware synths etc. a few years back, so it felt like home immediately, but I think even if you have no such experience you will quickly get up to speed with Reason. What you'll want though is, as Bodhi stated, a pretty good specced PC/Mac with an audio card with prefferably ASIO drivers. And definitely some mastering software to beef up the rendered result. Guest Endscape
You can get some nice sound out of Reason, but it takes a lot more work than it aught to. Like blink said, it is a great tool to learn from. Not many people are going to start with almost no knowledge of producing and just go out and buy thousands of dollars worth of hardware. Guest Bodhisattva
I am used to work with hardware a bit and some fellow musician i work with did only have a hardware studio worth 100.000$ BUT, now we use a load of soft synths and reason and LOGIC (on mac) and there is no more use for hardware, only mastering is still done on the hardware... Seriously, pro guys use software !!!!! and a bit of hardware... For me music is about making music, not about spending big bucks on high tech gear.. A good studio could be build starting from 2.000 $€ A good PC and a good soundcard (GOOD SOUNDCARD) is all you need to get you started... Bodhi Ps: I have hardware , wanna buy it ? ; -)
