Guest Red Headed Stepchild
I would really like find some cheap or free programs that use plugin instruments and FX too. Sort of like Cubase where one program controls another. I can't really spend more than $150.00 dollars for a interface program (Cubase, Logic, Ecx...). I would actually like to find lesser known companies products that run mainstream type plugins. I don't mind shopping on the net as long as the sites are secure. ThanXX. Guest random
For 150$ i'd suggest you go get FruityLoops. It holds its own very well against the more professional stuff like Cubase and whatnot. Give the demo version a spin at the very least.
Guest etherdesign
If you pick up the lastest version of Computer Music magazine you can get a free version of Muzys along with a 3 free instruments from Muon and several other freebies.. it's quite a good deal if you're just getting into music, Muzys is a pretty nice host.. Guest combeferre
Buzz now supports vsti's, although I'm not sure how well. In any case buzz is free so you might as well try it before spending your money on something else. I used to use buzz all the time and my main problems with it were the quality of the synths available for it and the tracker-style sequencer; if vsti's are handled well then this solves one of these problems, and depending on your take on trackers the other one might not be much of a problem either. Fruity loops is good value but if you want it mainly as a vsti host, be warned that not all vsti's work perfectly with it. On the other hand fruity loops also supports buzz instruments and effects, so maybe get started with buzz, see how that goes and if you want something else you can always get fruity loops and still use all your favourite buzz machines in that. Guest Ferox
I would go for buzz(www.buzzmachines.com) as well.. I've been working with it for more then 2 years now and i still can't work without it.. With buzz you can make quality productions, but you have to choose the best synths and effects carefully.. coz there are also some synths AND effects which could ruin the phat sound u just had.. so carefully pick the machines(effects/synths) u want to use and u'll get a nice result 100% free goodluck, peace

Guest Red Haeded Stepchild
Thanks to all of you. I do have Reason but would like to have the ability to use plugins and record audio. I will try this Buzz and Fruity Loops as well as the other ones listed. PEACE
