it depends what you want. The 100s are front loading and have effects on them. The pitch only goes up to +/- 10 I think. The 500s are smaller and are top loaders. No effects, but the pitch control goes upto +/- 16. The 500s are also more expensive. I hope that helps..

I think that pioneer 100 is more user friendly!

better opening cd, little case...its not important have pitch +/-16 but if you like it. Put button master tempo for longer time and pitch will changed on +/-16.

I have no problem with laser but some friends of me have this problem with pioneer 500.

Ok..

500 - has loop functionality, has pitch range of +/- 16. Has a top loading system that exposes the laser which can lead to defects due to dust and dirt. has a pitch resolution of 0.1

[note: there is an older, larger version of the 500 which offeres pretty much the same stuff. the 700 is the new 500 under a different name]

100 - has three effects [filter, reverb, pitch shift] can go down to -16 and up to +10 [cannot go up to +16]. has a front loading system that protects the internals. does not have loop. has a pitch resolution of 0.1

1000 - has advanced loop functionality. can store up to three cue points per cd. can store cue point and loop information on a smart card. can play in reverse. can act like a vinyl turntable. displays the waveform of the track. has a pitch range of +/- 24. has a pitch resolution of 0.02. calculates bpm.

800 - has loop functionality and can create automatic loops. can store cue poitn and loop information on a smart card. can play in reverse. can act like a vinyl turntable. has a pitch range of +/- 100. has a pitch resolution of 0.05

Any questions?

There's also the DMP-555, but forget about that. It's really expensive, and it's not worth it. There's also the dual systems [3000 and 5000], but I don't like them. In my opinion the best unit is the 800. Go for the 1000 if you really really want 0.01 pitch resolution, and the 100 if you're on a budget.
