Guest psy-fi
how do you? what instruments. hardware/software do you use? do you play the tracks and just add on some of the synth sounds "live" i was thinking of making my own liveset. but i dont know how to play it : ) i just use/own a computer with some progs and a synth. i use cubase. but since you cant play two projects at the same time how do you mix the tracks together? or do you have to make the whole set as one track? (that would ofcourse be the best way but would also mean alot of work...i think) any comments welcome! ///psy-fi
Guest DeeperNETWERK
I used to put on a few completely electronic shows... Just at a few partys. I basically took my old computer with me and a few distortion pedals, FX, and a synth. My computer at the time was a a 233 mhz and 64 mb of ram, hahaha... Running impulse tracker. hahah.. I did industrial noise.. I basically gave myself a really rough and distorted beat and made noise! It was fun... People dug it and thought i was insane, so it's all good. I had the bassline and the percussion prerecorded with a few other things to noises or synths that were too hard to do live. Most electronic shows are 95 % or more, prerecorded. Guest UrhgurH
When i started i brought the whole studio out to play, but i wised up real fast. So nowadays i just bring harddisc record a rack of fx n stuff, some synth and of course the drummer. Then it all works out just fine. Guest coriolis
i have not played live trance but i think about it sometimes (my shows are live ambient/experimental electronic stuff and i play my trance tracks as .wavs in these sets). i think i would break my track out into loop elements and use Ableton Live as a live sequencer for playing them back together in new and spontaneous ways. then i'd maybe throw in some variables like other sounds and loops that i didn't originally plan for the track, just to have more fun... you should check out Ableton Live, though, its really a great program, its extremely easy to use, very stable and theres nothing to compare to it (that i know of) for live loop sequencing. Guest nerve6
hi, I'm new here. I bring my PowerBook 500Mhz with 768RAM, RME Hammerfall DSP, Access Virus, E-mu Xtreme Lead-1. Sequence Software is Cubase. Basically, I make trax individually with Apple G4 desktop(Cubase VST, several VST instruments installed) with SuperNova, Virus, few Rhythm sound module and so on at home. record basic trax in HDD and mix'em. then open New Song from Cubase File menu, Drop individual arrangement on that empty New Song. Paset all of the data to New song from each arrangement file, so I can play my trax non stop.(if u use synth, don't forget to dump your patch program for each trax) basic trax runs with midi trax to Virus b and XL-1, also Virus b's nobs are controller of VSTis such like PRO-53 and so on. DO 'Prepair Archive'(cubase command) and save the song in a folder. then move to my PowerBook's HDD and run test. that's how i do. it takes time to arrange/copy all trax into one song, and i always have to worry abt VST EFX Plugin's CPU usage. does anyone know any other way abt this? Guest Tomek
For Tromesa we use an EMU Esi-4000 Turbo ZI (8 outs), nord rack 2 , 2 fx and compressor. Sequencing midi from a laptop pc. Also mixing in loops and sounds from cd. For Bigwigs same set up plus EMU E6400 Ultra with 16 outs.
Guest ehcsztein
we use a rather whacky set up for live... midi clock (just the clock) from Ensoniq ASR-X is sent to: quasimidi Rave-o-Lution 309 (sequenced independently) Korg EM-1 / ER-1 / EA-1 (all 3 sequenced independently) Emu XK-6 Korg Prohecy Korg Trinity As well as the EM-1 controls an Oberheim Matrix-6 and the EA-1 controls a Kawai K3 This is all ran through the Behringer MX3242X and effects etc. We sequence individual components independently to allow for more expressive shows and to prevent our "live" show from sounding like a bunch of pre-arranged / pre-recorded material...it has worked pretty well so far but i guess we'll see what happens
