Well hello there!!!!!

Is it possible to use vst-effects in MIDI-tracks of CuBase 5.... or is it possible to use anykind of effects in them?????(I don't have any hardware multi-effects, you see...)

Thanx already.!.

unfortunately not direct, no. thats because midi-tracks (sending commands to hardware) dont have any audio-signal, the signal is created in your synth / sampler whatever...

ive never tested it, but theoretically it should be possible to route the signal into your audio-card (it should have more then 1 input) and grab the input at an audio-track or so. somehow. dont know if and if yes how its possible...

peace

Here's how you do it...

1. Create your Midi channel connected to your hardware synth/drummachine/whatever it is you want to you.

2. Create an Audio channel with monitor on (disable direct monitoring if you use this).

3. Apply the VST/DX effects to your audio track.

*you will get the latency from you soundcard if you do not own a a professional audio card. In this case, you will have to edit you wave file after mixing down, meaning you'll have tu nudge it forward to get the correct timing. Direct monitor allows you to pass thru that latency straight to the audio track, but you can not apply FX effects until that midi sequence is mixed down to an audio track. *

I dont think you can monitor VST/DX effects straight in on Logic Audio. I could be wrong though. Cubase SX is great for this.

You guys seem to know what you're talking about, but I thought i'd give my 2c... In Cubase SX you are able to add send/insert effects to a vst instrument directly even as a midi track. You have to open the mixer window, click on the little arrow above the volume slider for the midi track. This will open a menu enabling you to choose inserts, sends etc. But I don't know whether this works in Cubase 5. Hope it does though! Actually i'd be interested to know if it does :)

fyi, you can indeed use vst effects on incoming audio in logic. you have to enable "software monitoring" in the audio hardware settings and as usual it introduces the associated latency into the signal, as in cubase.
