Guest coriolis
i use kontakt and its the best thing that ever happened to my percussion. sampling should always have been that easy and powerful. especially great is the multi-output functionality (supported in logic 5.3) where you can send different samples and patches to different outputs, thus enabling different fx and mix routings. lovely, just lovely! i can't beleive i ever got along without it - i just wasn't able to really implement my sampling ideas until i got it. its so easy now. Guest PPP
I use Logic too and a pgm called Battery. It does the job.
Guest lunar
do you use it as a plug in??? can you use it with midi??
Guest DeeperNETWERK
I recommend Native Instruments Battery, personally. It's low on CPU, you can make more then 30 outputs (not like you need em, but you can!), and you can do anything to your sound you want. The only thing it lacks is a filter section, which you could easily chain to a group track or individual tracks if you needed. I've used kontact before and the CPU meter goes crazy, and not because of denormalizing issues. It's just very CPU extensive. If you can handle that, more power to ya, but I like to save as much of my computer power as possible for FXs and audio tracks. Try em both out, they should have demo's at www.native-instruments.com. Guest coriolis
i didn't realize kontakt used more overhead than battery. i wonder how its internal audio engine compares to battery? i guess that makes sense. you'll be fine with battery. the advantages kontakt has are small. (but just to mention them: battery has an integrated file browser which makes it easier to add, change, and swap samples in your kits, and it has the ability to add extra envelopes, filters, eqs, and other modulation/effects to your sounds.) the ease and interface of kontakt makes it worth it to me but if i was going to recommend something for someone else i would say use battery, it does everything you'll need. Guest reece
you use Logic? then why not use the native EXS24??????? THE best sampler performance-wise within logic, and 5.3 supports multi-outs too!!! as for actual samples, just trawl the net for high quality hits. :-)
Guest UrhgurH
If you wan't an external unit, check out korg electribe er-1, or maybe the hardware version of waldorf attack. That way you'd get to make your own drums. But else just buy some "dance" oriented sample cds, then you'll be sure enough to get the standard 808'n'909 stuff, to use with your sampler. Guest Marc
The most simple and powerfull drum plugin is the LinPlug RMIII. It's cheap to. Marc
Guest random
or record them to cassette with a radio shack deck and try starting the samples on time... its a lot of fwd/rew/play/stop though
Guest ms
I sample my own drumsamples from a drumset + congas + other type of drums.. I then put them into my sampler (Native Instrument Battery) or use ReCycle and put them directly into Cubase. Works perfect and I dont have to "steal" samples from anyone else. For kickdrums I mostly use Stomper + Wavelab + FX..
