few questions about mastering

i used a noise gate on this new trak i m on, the kiks sounded weird as in i could only here three out of the 4 x 4 it was going like 'TAK TAK TAK tak' so effectively only three out of four. is it because i used the same noise gate for bass and kick.

 

is there a website where i can learn few things about audio production.

 

and lastly is there a free vst filter plugin u guys have used that has a envelope modulator knob besides the cut-off and resonance.
