I have approx. $1000us max. to buy a synth new. I live in Australia and there aren't that many option of buying second hand. So... can you please give me some suggestions. I have become quite taken with Novation K-Station but something a bit, um, bigger and with more controls etc. would be great. It's gonna be my first keyboard so not owning a Nordlead 2 straight away isn't gonna kill me, coz I'm also getting a Novation Drum Rack and also am paying off my new pc .

Thanks for your time,

Mike Dwyer :-)

You can actually get a Nord Lead 2 rack for $999 brand new.

You sure you want to get a drum rack? That Novation rack will only give you 808/909 style drums. You can find plenty of samples of those overused and boring kits free on the web at very high quality, in every variation possible. Have you thought about software to handle your drums? Battery/Kontakt/Attack? Then you won't have to deal with latency on the foundation of your tracks.
