Well that depends if you just want to fool around and have a notion of how it is done you can use fruity loops or some basic software like reason 2 , then if you get realy interested you will problably go to something more complex but also mush more powerfull like Logic Audio , and begining to include some hardware and geting a low latency sound card .

 

... you should start with fruity loops and read the help to get some lights about how it works and you can get some tracks made with fruity loops , but there are some more powerfull software ...

 

... WAR is the problem not the solution ... PEACE ...
