Guest lumpi
What do you guys think of a Roland TR505 Drumcomputer? Is it any good?
Guest spiralix
it is no good, at first you will think so, but, then you will start noticing that it has a very flat uninteresting sound.. As far as i know there are no goodsounding groove boxes..
Guest Pandable
The TR-505 is not a groovebox, spiralix, you're thinking of the MC-505. The TR-505 is the younger brother of the 808/909 series, but uses digital samples for it's sounds. Dont waste your money on it, it can only do so much: and you can find that so much in samples. Look on the net for 505 samples. Most of the sounds suck anyway, but if you're like me you'll fall in love with the low tom.
Guest gallowglass
ive got one of these, and yes it totally sucks. including the low tom, in my opinion anyway.
Guest etherdesign
If you can get a good deal on one, which I imagine you can, it makes a pretty good MIDI drum sequencer for a different module, or software, like reaktor, attack, or battery for instance.. Guest Andreas of Amygdala
About the sounds again... Unprocessed and dry, the drums sound rather dingy and stupid, except the closed hat, and the usual old-school clap. But with some reverb and stuff, they can really come to life. Apart from that, the samples are extremely well chosen, inspite of the actual sound, they really carry some cool frequency-"lumps". Using this machine for a modulationsignal in a vocoder is incredible. This and the 707 (same samples) are the only drums I have succesfully used for vocoding - and when I tried to sample them in my AKAI, the energy went away... So the box IS good for something - I'm NEVER parting with my 707!! .oO Andreas Oo.
Guest Pandable
505 is like a 707 w/ worse sounds, though
