Help me with Cool Edit

A friend gave me his collection of ancient rave cassettes recorded at parties 10 years ago, and I'm ripping them to mp3 to save that part of electronic music history :)

But the sound is a bit muffled on those tapes, and I wonder if someone knows the best settings for noise reduction, equalizer settings etc. in Cool Edit to get the best possible sound out of them. Or should I just record a wave file, normalize it and leave it as it is?

Tnx for your feedback ;)

in cool edit you can do a gppd noise reduction by finding a part with no music, anazlysing thast part witht the noise reduction plug in and then using this analasys on the whole mix to remove only the noise
