Guest BrainStorm
Reason 2.0 software is able to produce at least 80% of all Astral's sounds.. i managed to tweak it by myself, check my newest album its all done without any hardware, im pretty sure you will recognize many synths of Astral use BrainStorm "Angels" 2004: http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?songs...gs=163742&T=110 (PANNED PROMO VERSIONS)

Guest Ramesh
Not very complicated, just listen to their tunes carefully. I can recognize in most of them: - the Novation Bass Station - JD-800 - Jupiter 8 (not sure) - SH-101 - TB-303 - Juno 106 I think they have a Korg Monopoly or something that can make very close sounds. Also they use some digital synths other than the Roland JD-800. I think they have an Access Virus or something close. Just have to listen carefully to their tunes... Guest Ramesh
I am listening right now to Starship 101 from Etnica. The main lead is from the Orbit Danceplanet (EMU) with a Z-Plane filter (not bad actually) but digital sound, nothing analog as you can see (or hear!). Guest WOggz
are you sure? it sounds pretty much like an sh101 for almost all the sounds on the track. I thoguth that's why it was called starship

sceyefeye
Juno 60 DX7 SH-101 Jupiter something etc check vintagesynth.com There is a Reason refil called Virology, and in the description they list AP as users of the Access Virus. Just my 2 cents. Also there is a youtube video of AP live at the Fridge Club in London 2006 and there you can get a glimpse of some of their older kit, Roland (not sure model) amongst others. Their newer stuff is certainly a lot more digital and atmospheric with a less pronounced kick and to my mind a lot more virus 'inspired' than the early 90's stuff. On the Etnic comments, apart from Starhip 101 (and no I have no idea what they were using back then - other than perhaps a 303 or later - having seen them live in Cape Town) they also have a track Z-plane sunrise so perhaps there is smoething to the comment about using a Z-plane? mentris
here are some interesting facts taken from: plur magazine nov 97 PLUR: What do you have in your studio?( if you think this is a secret, you don't have to answer this one) AP: First of all great acoustics, I designed and built the studio myself with the help of an architect friend. I have a lot of Roland gear mostly old analog stuff: MKS's, JX's, JUNO's, TR's. A lot of analog synths of various types, high-end out board gear like Lexicon and Valley. Some digital recorders, ADATs etc.......I have a nice GH CH desk with automation, IBM & ATARI computers and a very special 30 years old Neumann tube microphone. PLUR: Let's get to the technical side the other musicians are curious about. What's the main synthesizer or sampler you use? AP: Emu Emaxўє, Roland MKS50, TR909, TB303, SH101 There's no main synth really and we don't sample that much but almost every song we do has: EN EMAX II, Roland MKS 50, TR 909, TB 303, SH 101, and a lot more........ PLUR: Many of your tracks have this long "kick". How do you make it? AP: I program the kick on an analog synth of some kind then eq, compress, gate, sample it. PLUR: Do you use lots of effect on tracks, like filter, envelope, or compressor? How? AP: Yeah, I use a lot of delays, chorusing for stereo image, I compress the rhythm section sometimes. source: http://www.uic.nnov.ru/~udr/astralpr.htm
