Guest aslak
hi all music freaks ! It makes now a while that i'm wondering something.... you know, all these voice samples coming from different movies used in psytrance... like the very well know, "take the blue pill..." or "welcome to the real world..." from Matrix.... or "this is the one ring... forged by the dark lord Sauron..." from the lord of the rings... or the different "traps" samples from Cube.... does someone know if all the artists who used these kind of samples, asked for the autorization to use it ? cause for sure there must exist some laws about it.... i really wonder ???? Guest aslak
yes... many people told me the same thing : "under a certain time limit".... but does somebody know the exact time limit ?
Guest spacemonkey
no time limit, in fact it is illegal to use such samples. the reality however is that movieproducers want bother most artist for money because this would mean lawsuits they obviously win but there would be no money to get from these poor producers. when you would however make a big hit song with a sample in it, and you would make millions off of it, they would come knocking on your door for their cash. and besides that it somesort of promotion, you heared the sample you might wnat to watch the movie. there is a certain aging of copyright which is something like 50 years after the death of the artist is becomes free for anyone, most of the time relatives will own the rights an renew them so you must still pay. Guest Tetsuo
yeah, who listens to psy trance anyway? i bet most film people have no clue that their films have been sampled... appart from when the big boys do it, then i guess they need permision... Imagine: some long haired, drugged up hippie producer (hehe) strutting into MGM to get permision to use a sample from their latest movie... theyd laugh in his face... or her face....
