Guest XOL Posted June 12, 2003 Posted June 12, 2003 hello. i am about to play a live set enterely with software and a midi controller. i am using cubase sx with some vstis like walforf attack, synth1, pro53 (for bass), reason and absynth.for leads i am mainly using subtractor from reason. i have a souncard that has 2 outs only, and no other hardware. i am a little unsecure at this point, so i am looking for some advice if someone has pulled off something like this... j. Guest dj poliisi Posted June 12, 2003 Posted June 12, 2003 hmm it depends what are you going to do live. those outs arent the problem. but explain what of those are you going to handle live and which are already sequenced so I might be able to help you Quote
Guest XOL Posted June 12, 2003 Posted June 12, 2003 hi man.. all the percussion is sequenced as well as the bass (i am using pro53 for that- it sounds fine, i think- but what do you think?- i just got the linplugalbino but i will start using it in the next set- waldorf attack and korg es1 for percussions, NIabsynth for atmosphere effects. some leads are made with synth1 but most of them are made in reasons subtractor triggered with the matrix sequencer which i am using "live" by moving the filters with the controller. i have tried other soft synths, but still subtractor keeps sounding better live... i have never tried this set in fully amplified speakers... i have assigned all of the sequenced percussions, bass and effects to one channel and the "live" leads to the other. i think it sounds pretty well but I dont have studio monitors just stereo speakers. any advice would be deeply apreciated... by the way, finnish psytrance rules. j. Guest Andreas of Amygdala Posted June 14, 2003 Posted June 14, 2003 Hullo I don't know what kind of computing power you have, but wouldn't it be a good idea to bounce all the sequenced stuff to a wavefile...? That way you save some processor-time, and the less softsynths you have open, the less likely the computer will be to crash (which would be baaaad ) I played a live-gig yesternight, and used Absynth and Delay Lama for that. They came out of the same output as the bounced waves, so I had to control volume and such by MIDI - it's a bit tricky, if you accidently leave a volume=0 hanging there, or something like that. I guess my point is, yes it can work .oO Andreas Oo. Quote
Guest XOL Posted June 16, 2003 Posted June 16, 2003 hi... thanks for your suggestions, it did come out pretty well.. i played the set and it sounded ok. the cpu crashing is not a problem. but i think that the vsti that i have mentioned above arent the best for that purpose. i am thinking about installing z3ta or virsyn for live manipulation. Any suggestion is wellcome.. j. Quote
Guest Jeto Posted June 20, 2003 Posted June 20, 2003 z3ta is great... also try Reaktor and Junglist Quote
Guest blink Posted June 26, 2003 Posted June 26, 2003 junglist is a cpu hog as is virsyn, but virsyn is stable and the 8x manipulation is great for live mix. i do it alot when recording automated sections. albino is a great synth vsti. along with the vstation. absynth is good, but man if you can get your hands on any of the plugsound volumes or spectrasonic's atmosphere, i think you will never go back to absynth. e-mail me directly if you got any questions on the post peace to you organicparadox-phatnatty blink Quote
