Guest soliptic
take a look at the "thinking inside the box" tutorial on dnbscene.com i know it appears to be talking about drumnbass but the principles apply to psytrance too. it is about how to think/use eq to layer sounds and prevent muddiness, amongst other things
Guest spiralix
if you want to separate the sounds a bit, try to pan things, put some drums in the left and some in the right.. and also you can add some reverb to put them in different 3d areas... also as mentioned, you can eq them so that they dont occupie the same area of frequency.. Guest Jeroen
Thinking inside the box is definitely a good tutorial, not only for percussion! As for your problem, i don't really know how to help you except by saying that it may be a good idea to listen closely to tracks you like and see how those artists did their percussion.
