Guest help needed

i need help with percussion...i have no idea how to layer percussion properly.

i can get the initial perc with the kick and bass to sound good, but then when i want to place another layer on top of the original it starts to sound muddy...and i sudder to think what the 3rd layer would sound like

are there any resources on the net that can help me with this or can any of you producers lend me some advice. I am using logic 5 w/ vsts

take a look at the "thinking inside the box" tutorial on dnbscene.com

i know it appears to be talking about drumnbass but the principles apply to psytrance too. it is about how to think/use eq to layer sounds and prevent muddiness, amongst other things

if you want to separate the sounds a bit, try to pan things, put some drums in the left and some in the right.. and also you can add some reverb to put them in different 3d areas...

also as mentioned, you can eq them so that they dont occupie the same area of frequency..

Thinking inside the box is definitely a good tutorial, not only for percussion!

As for your problem, i don't really know how to help you except by saying that it may be a good idea to listen closely to tracks you like and see how those artists did their percussion.
