All you have to do is create a sequencer track for whatever mixer you are using. That will give you the option of controlling the mixer via MIDI, or writing event changes and a few other interesting things.

first create a sequencer track,

then u need to select Mixer 1, or whatever mixer u want to automate..

then make sure the midi symbol appears at the left of the track,

then click record and grab a knob from the mixer... there u go.. u can automate any mixer knob that way, sends, pans, etcs.... U can also automate any effect the same way, but u probably already knew that..
