Ususal Suspects cover controversy

A number of people have commented that they don't care for Twisted's new art direction, calling it too streamlined and "commerical."

Maybe I missed something. Psy packaging is getting some less amateurish, "look-I-just-got-Photoshop-check-out-my-bevels-and-rainbow-gradients" treatment, and people are ripping on it? What's the matter? 'Not enough fractals and motion-blurred fonts for ya?

At least we don't see Simon Posford's mug plastered all over his products. When I think of commerical packaging I think of airbrushed supermodels in thongs. I think of GQ-lit b/w portraits. I think Parental Advisory stickers.

Be lucky. It could be much worse. Personally, I'm glad they got rid of Raja's indecipherable doodles.

personally.. i would say it does look crap. when u compare it to the fun and psychedelic covers of "demented" & "demetertainment" for example.

who cares if it looks more "professional" and modern. its only taking away the cool art found on older psychedelic covers.

Kingdok : "Be lucky. It could be much worse. Personally, I'm glad they got rid of Raja's indecipherable doodles."

i thought the whole point about something being psychedelic was it not being straight-forward. so u had to use some imagination. instead of this clubby, cut & paste job, that just steals the whole vibe of the cd/record.

dont worry my flame isnt directed AT u kingdok :) im just having my say.

It looks like i would buy the cd at best buy just like every other trance cd they have there. their old covers and logo where much cooler, though i dont really mind the logo now, just the crazy mushroom dude was very cool.

btw... raja ram rocks.

demented, dementerainment, and the eclipse album all had great designs & packaging - no fractals or tacky motion blur in sight if i recall right. part of appreciating this music and culture is appreciating some of the great art that goes along with some goa albums. i question whether a bland and more conventional style really suits the label's music...

i don'l like the new unusual cover either. i'm more into old school graphics with lots of colours and stuff. even if its looks childisch... but if the releases stay as good as the tracks on unusual they may mess up the cover!

Personally I dont like the new Twisted album -cover. But yes, sometimes I feel that

there is too much tacky colors & simple wannabe psychedelic graphics (Remember California Sunshine)? But a mind-enchanting cover is always a pleasure one. Inside the Dub Trees cover for instance: the hand forming a tree and the branches are small hands coming out of eachother! Wow. And some FSOL's covers are mighty cool. I used too like those Space Tribe-type covers very much, but there has been an inflation in that kind of graphics and frankly, aren't we all bored of seeing Shiva/Buddah/Mushroom/Planets/Stars-images on every psy-cover? I mean ,a little variation and surprising creativity is requested. Like the Shpongle cover, simple but still makes a great statement. I hope we can move away from that cheesy 95/96 Israeli goa-cover style and move on.

And Twisted's new homepage is ugly.
