Guest goner
i dont know maybe this sounds silly but what kind of programs do u need to maake Psy-trance? Except inspiration and fantasy...what else .i mean.. I am running cubase with loads of vst plug ins into it, i am using reason but i maybe miss something from the whole picture.. I have problems with basslines and how to match them on to the groove i already gave in to my track but how do i accooplish the basslines many groups have, which is "a perfect fit" into the track.. i tried with step designer in cubase but i have done much.. Any others ideas? Can u make stuff in cubase?or is it just for editing? PeaCe
Guest miKeLogic
Goner, In a way you've realised something very important, without realising it of course! The bassline is the glue that holds the track together. It combines the melody/key and the ryhthm. If it doesn't work properly, it will become very obvious. They say our interpretation of how good a track is how closely the bass is linked to the rest of the track. There are some good articles on harmonycentral.com whcih, really for playing bass guitar, will help you loads, as it's still music we're dealing with here. As a simple start, just make a bunch of 16th notes a bar long (4 beats), all on the same note, which is also the key note. If you don't know what key your track is in, learn some music theory (website/book etc). Then delete the notes which also fall on the kick drum (ie. the first note out of every bunch of 4). Assign this to a synth in reason or cubase. Set the waveform as square waves. Start with just one oscillator. And that's it! Standard psy bass line. Next when you get bored, you can start shifting the notes up and down a fifth (7 semitones). To make anything more complex, you're gonna have to learn music theory, and make damn sure your bass notes are in key. And record everything down in cubase. If you move a fader on something and it makes a cool sound, either automate it and record it down right now, or just record and tweak the fader as it does to disk. This way you can build up mega complex tracks with an old system, and is also they only way to do psy tance IMHO. Hope this helps, sorry for any ranting, is Paddys day you know and i'm on a mission.
