Guest Stonez
Hi guys! I'm an amateur in music making and I want to recommend me a synth software for my start. 10x!
Guest Kiph T. Elephant
You also need a sequencer to host the synth. Try Fruity Loops. It comes with everything you need to get started. It's a sequencer, which comes with some synth plugins (at least the 404). You can also add additional VST plugins to it. There's also Reason, which is sort of a all-in-one program, but you can't get additional plugins for it (at least not very easily. You have to mess with ReWire and a separate sequencer). I don't have much experience with this. It's very powerful for an all-in-one solution, but not very expandable. I guess the synths that come with these should be enough to get you started. Afterwards you can try out some additional synths (there are lots of free ones and you can also try out demos of the commercial ones to see which you like)

Guest X0MoD
i love Buzz. it's completely free, written for/by musicians. get it at www.buzzmachines.com coming from a quasi-experienced music-making standpoint, this is the best software you can get for your buck. the fact being that, well, you spend no bucks! Guest Peep
stay away from buzz. It is unstable pain in the arse and will never be updated again 'cause the coder lost the source code. rather goto renoise.com or madtracker.org if you want a tracker. Renoise is almost free, only ASIO and diskwriter costs money, so you have full featured software to get started with. Of course it costs only 45$ to register, so it would be wise to do so if you continue with your new hobby... But feel free to research any software out there. Then you know what suits you best. If you go for tracker then get free synth1 VST to start out synth learning. Otherwise if there's bundled synth, like in FL, you propably won't be needing it at start.
