Guest shane
FruityLoops (now known as FLStudio) is an excellent place to start. It seems to be very popular for beginners, and probably a few pros. I've gotten pretty good at using it and am now moving on to Reason, which is more complicated and powerful. When you need to work with audio and MIDI/VSTi's, you will eventually need Cubase/Sonar 3/etc.

Guest Kel
checkout www.computer.co.uk for Fruity Tuts and more. If you have $1500-$3000 to spend on software, Sure get Cubase and a few high quality Plugins, but if you don't, Fruity rocks hard enough to keep up with the rest - Supports Midi, VSTi, VST, DX and Audio (Hard disk Recording). Ciao...Kel

Guest Pellet
I agree, fruity is a great place to start. Its easy to get your way around and runs quite fast. I started with Fruity 3.7 then moved to Cubase then Logic. Its been around for ages and has great support and lots of interesting and exciting things that can be done with it. I wouldn't underestimate this program. It just doesn't work with Midi intruments too well, thus once you start buying outboard hardware, such as sound cards and synths. You may need to move on to Cubase with reason using rewire. I am not sure if you can use fruity with rewire. Anyone?
Guest KUSANAGI_SEED
i currently use FLstudio 4.6 its the ish, i make hip hop beats , i started making trance beats way back when flstudio was fruity loops 3.1, i now use alot of reason, the main reason..<?> to use REASON is because of its sher power and assortment of samples in the soundbanks, but the bad thing is its not user friendly at all, youll need to get used to it and understand how it works, its ultra realistic, soo its good to use if your going to jump from software made music to harware made music, as far as tutorials, check out the trance[]control website, peeps are always colaborating and will give you help and tips if you establish your selfe , well thats all i can help you with
