Logic is yuck...

Cubase is used in Europe, Logic in USA...

I personally like Cubase, probably 'cos I've been using it for like 10-15 years...

Although Cubase SX2 kinda looks like Logic anyway which was one of my probs with Logic....

Really you look at it like a host...what does it come with (instruments/effects), and what does it allow plugging in of (VST/VSTi/DX/DXi/ReWire/ReBirth/TDM etc).

What are the quality of the built in effect like (eq etc) is there dithering to go from say 32Bit to 24Bit.

Some of the synths with Logic are nice...

BTW: What do you want to do? Yes I know make music, but, in Cubase/Logic? Reason then export tracks to host? Rewire? Orion into Cubase etc?

Also, you might want a proggy for editing wav's etc, Wavelab is my fav, although lots of people use Sound Forge...

well it all depends on your preference...

both programs are good try them out and see for yourself...

I did read on forums before that logic was a little bit deeper though because u can set up environments for ex. but loads of artists are making great music with cubase so like i said it comes down to which interface u like more and which pgm seems more user-friendly to u...

basically don't worry about the pgm u use too much, it doesn't make that much difference...

And as far as the pc vs mac issue.... i think mac is a better choice.. more stable ...plus now macs come with logic integrated, or at least it should be that way soon so that's always a plus... cause logic was discontinued on pc.

i still use it though but i won't be able to get the latest versions so i might have to switch to cubase in a couple of years.... so that's an other thing to keep in mind...

logic.

:)

except for the fact that emagic is owned by apple who made a very bastardly and Microsoft-like move to discontinue the application on PC and hang all their PC customers out to dry (i'm one of them in case you hadn't guessed)

but it has been and still is the best sequencer IMHO. however, nowadays they're all catching up to a certain standardized plateau of features, the differences are less and less important.

the biggest reason why i like logic is it's excellent variety of interfaces for controller automation. theres "track automation," "hyperdraw", "hyperedit", "event list", and all manner of dodads in the "environment" which can modify and translate the data. the whole design of the application gives you lots of ways to work, theres more than one way to do most things, and everyone develops there own style with it.

however, logic is a rather deep and "heady" application, i would say cubase is more "up front" about things and has an easier learning curve, and in the big picture you can acheive the same music with either program.

If you own a Mac , you have the Choice... SX2 or Logic (unlike or PC Musical friends).

As for cubase sounding better... mmmm.

With Logics 32 Bit floating point engine it sounds great... but wait, Cubase , Logic even Protools HD can all sound better with Excellent convertors and a Stable clock.

As from the included Arsnel of FX and Instruments.... Logic Wins (pardon the pun) hands down.

Also remember with Fxpansion's excellent VST wrapper we get the best of both worlds... VST and AU (audio units). SX guys must be chomp'n at the bit... (I'd suggest you SX users hassle FXpansion or Steinberg to make a AU>VAT adaptor) Have you heard Apples own Matrixverb... Its part of quicktime, and available as a plug-in in all AU compatible Hosts.... Its as good as , if not better than waves Ren Verb. I kid you not. And its free.

This shows apple's dedication to us musicians and developers.

So for me, not all people, its Logic .

A ex Pro 12 (commodore)> Pro 24 (Atari)> Cubase (Atari)> Cubase VST (Winblows then mac)> SX User.
